Food Security

About 820 million people will go to bed hungry tonight. Kids who are hungry do not do well in school, which compromises their future capability to make a living and succeed. The cycle of poverty continues for those children who do not get adequate nutrition and cannot therefore reach their full potential as adults. Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination, and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making.

grace

Because UPENDO provided a goat to her family, Grace is now able to have school uniform and supplies as well as enough food for herself and the whole family. Goats multiply fast and they can be sold to provide money for the family’s needs. Goats provide milk rich in protein, calcium and other essential elements that growing children need. Manure from the goats is used to grow vegetables in the family backyard. Your gift of $50 will give a goat to a family.

poultry

Investing in women’s empowerment is crucial for families to flourish and create meaningful and lasting change in society. We help women start income generating projects and have savings and loan groups where they can save and borrow money for their various needs. Women venture into poultry and goat keeping to enhance their income.

We support women group to start income generating activities. Alice is overjoyed as she started a chicken project and says, “now my children do not have to go hungry and never miss school anymore because they lack school supplies”
